Woman Who Posted R. Kelly’s Bail Won’t Get Her Money Back, Judge Rules

The woman who put up $100,000 to get R. Kelly out of jail earlier this year, can forget about getting a refund. Valencia Love’s attorney filed a motion last week in an attempt to have the money returned, but Cook County Judge Lawrence Flood ruled against the request Tuesday (Sept. 17).

According to the Chicago-Sun Times, Love wants her money back since Kellz is currently being held on separate federal sex trafficking and child porn charges. Love said that she had no prior knowledge of the federal investigation against Kelly, the Sun-Times reports.

Flood reportedly determined that Love is not legally entitled to the money. However, Love could potentially get her bail money back at the end of Kelly’s trial in Cook County, although that could be years from now. Her attorney, John Collins, told the court that his client is “worried she’s in jeopardy of losing that money.” Collins also claimed that Love paid $50,000 of Kelly’s back child support, which she has denied.

The Chicago-area business owner claimed to be a “friend” of Kelly’s when she put up cash to have him released from jail in February following his arrest on multiple counts of aggravated sex abuse charges. After Kelly posted bail, Love’s identity and her businesses — which includes a daycare — were exposed. The reveal subjected Love, and her businesses, to a flood of negative comments online.

As if the nature of their relationship wasn’t confusing enough, Love is apparently interested in using the $100,000 to help pay his legal fees. While speaking to the Sun-Times, Love doubled down on her support for Kelly by noting that he has yet to be convicted.

“At no point have I ever supported a pedophile,” she said. “He has not been convicted yet. Why is it so bad that I did a favor for a friend?”

Love’s money wasn’t the only item on the agenda in court Tuesday. Kelly appeared at a short hearing where Flood denied prosecutors’ request to increase his bondto $1 million. Flood noted that Kelly is already being held without bond on federal charges and increasing his bond would be pointless.
