Ladies Of ‘Coming 2 America’ Dish New Details About Sequel

We know we’re not the only one’s excited about the sequel to Coming To America. Even the stars of the upcoming and long-awaited film starring Eddie Murphy can’t contain their glee.

, Murphy will reprise his role as Prince Akeem alongside Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, James Earl Jones and Vanessa Bell Calloway who are all returning from the original.

Then there’s new characters played by Jermaine Fowler, Kiki Layne, Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones and Michael Blackson. Details have been vague, but when we caught up with Calloway and Layne they gave us some exclusive details

I can tell you that I’m back,” joked Calloway playing coy. “Oh and Wesley Snipes plays my brother.”

In the original Calloway played princess Imani Izzi who was originally set to marry Prince Akeem before he set out on his quest to find a queen in America.

Once in Queens, New York Akeem meets and falls in love with Lisa McDowell (played by Shari Headley). The two eventual marry in a ceremony in Zamunda at the end of the film. Layne told us she plays Meeka, the couples daughter who has her sights set on the throne.

Both ladies also gushed about the costumes and Academy Award winner Ruth Carter who served as costume designer for the film. “She did the damn thing,” said Calloway who recently dressed up as her character from the film for a Halloween episode of Steve Harvey’s talk show alongside Headley.

Meanwhile Layne said she got to keep a couple items when filming wrapped. “I may have taken an accessory or two and a pair of shoes,” she said playfully.

Coming 2 America is directed by Craig Brewer (Dolemite is My Name) and is slated to hit theaters in August.
