Gabrielle Unionhad people gushing when she posted photos of her 10-month old daughterKaavia Jamesdressed as Union’s “Bring It On” character.
In the 2000 film, considered a cult classic, Union played the character Isis, the captain of the East Compton Clovers cheerleading squad.
And the color of the team’s uniform in the film was green, yellow and red, which is the exact color of Kaavia’s outfit. Union dressed her in the uniform for a trip to Union’s home state of Nebraska.
Bring it!!!!!” the Omaha native captioned the photo on Sunday. “Thank you @runzarestaurants for @kaaviajames Runza Clovers outfit to kick off her very 1st visit to #Nebraska 🏈👼🏾.”
Plus, baby Kaavia, who has her own Instagram account with almost one million followers, shared a separate photo of the outfit on her page.
“Of course I brought it,” the picture was captioned. “#Clover4Life#BringItOn#NebraskaGirl.”
That particular photo, also posted on Sunday, has almost 180,000 likes, while Union’s post has nearly half a million.
“Lol so adorable 😍she should be on the next Bring it on movie 😍 @gabunion,” someone wrote under the actress’ post.Brrrr it’s cold in here, there must be some clovers in the atmosphere!!! Love it super cute,” wrote another, repeating the Clover’s famous routine in the film.
“Bring it On remake in a few years!!! 😍” a third person wrote.
In 2018, during aninterviewwith ELLE, Union talked about the popular film and why she wanted to play Isis. And it had to do with its story of cultural appropriation.
“I had wanted this cheerleading movie ‘Sugar & Spice,’ but they didn’t go black on any of the roles. I couldn’t even audition,” Union explained. “In ‘Bring It On,’ the story is about cultural appropriation, and how the hard work of African Americans has been repackaged with blond hair and blue eyes. The social justice of it appealed to me.”
