It may be hard to believe, but it’s already been a whole year since Gabrielle Union and husband Dwyane Wadewelcomed their only daughter, Kaavia James Union Wade. The youngster is now officially 1 year old!
Union celebrated the milestone on her Instagram page Nov. 7 by posting a photo of her giddy young one wearing an uncharacteristic smile on her face.
“BABY TURNS 1!! ??? ?? To say this lil nugget came into our lives and changed everything, would be an understatement,” the “L.A.’s Finest” star wrote in the photo caption. “@kaaviajames has been such a gift and blessing to our family and literally everyone she meets. Yall, I’m still in shock she’s even here much less walking, talking, swimming and eating bacon! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤”
Further showing just how in love she is with her only child, Union marked her location on the pic as “My Happy Place.”
In response to the loving ode, Union’s Instagram followers left a ton of comments remarking on Kaavia James’ happiness and wishing her a happy birthday.
“She’s the cutest!! That smile!♥️”
That face!!! Happy Birthday Kaavia ?”
“Omg.. Happy Birthday to this cutie patootie .. May God continue to bless you forever and ever??????”
“Happy 1st Birthday Kaavia!! I Love watching you daily!! And she loves chicken ????❤️”
“It’s been a joy watching her grow. Thanks for sharing. The world’s babygirl.”
A day after Kaavia James was born, Union and her retired NBA husband Wade shared on Nov. 8, 2018, that they had welcomed a daughter via surrogate.
We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that our miracle baby arrived last night via surrogate and 11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days,” read Wade’s Instagram announcement. “Welcome to the party, sweet girl.”
Wade has three sons, Zaire, 17, Zion, 12 and, Xavier, 5. Plus he has custody of 17-year-old Dahveon, who is his nephew. He and Union have tried to conceive naturally for years, but they’ve faced issues with fertility along the way.
Union got candid about her struggles in her memoir “We’re Gonna Need More Wine.”
“I have had eight or nine miscarriages,” Union wrote. “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”
She felt the emotional toll when people would ask her about starting a family with Wade.
“People mean so well, but they have no idea the harm or frustration it can cause,” said Union.
